SUMMARY:Combinatorial Design Theory session at Summer 2026 CMS Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Combinatorial design theory studies the existence\, construction\, and structure of finite sets such as subsets\, arrays\, and graphs\, that satisfy constraints. Leonard Euler investigated pairs of orthogonal Latin squares in the 18th century\, and design theory’s origin predates this with a magic square found on a turtle’s back in China around 2200 BC. In the 20th century\, Statisticians used Balanced Incomplete Block Designs\, and connections with algebra and finite geometry opened new directions in the field. In the late 20th century\, computational approaches marked a new era in design theory. Today design theory is multidisciplinary\, studying factorization problems and combinatorial arrays with applications that include algorithm design\, cryptography\, wireless communication\, and coding theory. Canada is home to a growing strong and internationally recognized research community. SUMMARY:Session on Combinatorial Design Theory at the 2025 CMS Winter Meeting
DESCRIPTION:In the 18th century\, several seemingly innocuous scheduling problems were proposed\, often in the form of a puzzle. These problems were ultimately solved using tools and theoretical approaches that now lie in what is known as combinatorial design theory. Since then\, this area of mathematics has seen tremendous growth in the diversity of designs\, constructions\, and applications that it encompasses. The purpose of this session is to showcase recent results in topics such as classical designs\, cycle systems\, graph decompositions\, Latin squares and other aspects of design theory.

SUMMARY:EMF conference
DESCRIPTION:The Espace Mathématique Francophone (EMF) was created to promote reflection and exchange within the French-speaking world on current issues in the teaching of mathematics in today’s society\, at primary\, secondary and higher education levels. The EMF contributes to the development of a French-speaking community rich in cultural diversity\, around the teaching of mathematics at the crossroads of continents\, cultures and generations. The EMF colloquium aims to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas\, informations\, experiences and researches on current issues in mathematics education. That’s why we’ve chosen “Mathematics education in an accelerating society: issues\, challenges and opportunities” as the theme for the 2025 event. The symposium is preceded by a pre-conference called the Young Teachers Special Project. These days provide an opportunity for young teachers from all over the French-speaking world to exchange ideas\, and raise awareness of their role in shaping the mathematical culture of their countries.

SUMMARY:Thematic Program "Mathematical Foundations of Data Science"
DESCRIPTION:The rise of big data has caused a tectonic shift in the field of data science\, opening up new possibilities but also coming with new challenges\, such as the curse of dimensionality. These changes have revived old ideas and inspired new approaches in many areas of applied mathematics. Some of the most fascinating and impactful developments are now taking place at the interface of optimization\, probability theory\, numerical analysis\, approximation theory and their interplay with machine and statistical learning. Motivated by this recent transformations\, our thematic program will bring together established researchers as well as students and postdocs to learn about the most recent trends in the field\, share emerging ideas and foster new collaborations. The main activities of the program will be five workshops and one spring school. The program will also host several long-term visitors and two Aisenstadt Chairs that will deliver distinguished lectures.

DESCRIPTION:Girls STEM Up is collectively 28 women students based in Fredericton\, NB\, who are passionate about bridging the gap of gender inequity in STEM fields\, focusing on intersectionality. Founded in 2019\, with the goal of sparking necessary discussions and changing the perception of women in STEM. We have since expanded to include 60+ general members\, high school ambassadors\, and volunteers.\nOur experiences as underrepresented individuals in STEM have brought us together to promote diversity\, inclusion\, and equity in these fields through representation\, awareness\, and education. \nWe proudly host an annual conference celebrating girls’ and women in STEM’s achievements. Our event provides an extraordinary platform for women and girls to connect with like-minded individuals\, exchange valuable knowledge\, and shine spotlight to incredible success stories in STEM. This ignites passion in those pursuing STEM careers. Our sixth edition of the conference GSU: Connect and Conquer will take place in February 2025.

SUMMARY:Combinatorial Algebra meets Algebraic Combinatorics 22nd annual workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Combinatorial Algebra meets Algebraic Combinatorics (CAAC) workshop is an annual meeting taking place in Canada since 2004\, with a focus on the continuously evolving interactions between combinatorial algebra and algebraic combinatorics. These meetings provide a strong connection between the two communities and help with the development of these fields. Historically\, the CAAC meetings provided opportunities for graduate students\, postdoctoral fellows\, and early career researchers to present their work\, learn about new research directions in related fields\, and establish future collaborations. The 22nd Annual CAAC conference will take place at the York University from Friday\, January 24\, 2025\, to Sunday\, January 26\, 2025. CAAC 2025 will include four invited 50-minute lectures\, a collection of contributed talks given by graduate students and postdoctoral fellows\, a poster session\, and time for informal social and scientific interactions.

SUMMARY:Women in Commutative Algebra III
DESCRIPTION:In order to improve the visibility of female researchers in commutative algebra and to give them an opportunity to enlarge and strengthen their scientific networks\, we are hosting a 5-day collaborative research workshop entitled “Women in Commutative Algebra III” (or ”WICA III”). The major objectives of the workshop are to advance commutative algebra through cutting-edge re-search; promote the research of women in commutative algebra; facilitate collaborative interaction between junior and senior mathematicians\, which includes bolstering leadership among women researchers\, and providing mentoring for early career mathematicians; cultivate a research network among women commutative algebraists; advance the academic careers of women algebraists through research publications and professional connections\, including those from historically underrepresented groups\, from universities with a teaching focus and small colleges\, and those isolated geographically from potential collaborators.

DESCRIPTION:Combinatorial Algebra Meets Algebraic Combinatorics (CAAC) is a two-day workshop bringing together researchers working at the intersection of combinatorics and algebra. It examines the role of combinatorial structures\, such as permutations\, matroids and polytopes\, arising from problems in Schubert calculus\, commutative algebra\, and other branches of algebra\, representation theory and geometry.

SUMMARY:Session on Combinatorial Design Theory at the 2023 Winter Meeting of the Canadian Mathematical Society
DESCRIPTION:Combinatorial design theory has a history dating back to the 18th century when Leonhard Euler pondered the existence of orthogonal pairs of Latin squares. This session will showcase recent results in topics such as classical designs\, cycle systems\, graph decompositions\, Latin squares and other aspects of design theory.

SUMMARY:Women in Commutative Algebra II
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of this event is to establish and enhance research networks among women and female identifying mathematicians who work in the areas of mathematics related to commutative algebra. It will be the second of its kind. The first one (Banff 2019) was an amazing success\, with many of the groups still working together. It has led to a strong network that besides research\, provides visibility for women and many opportunities for professional development. It has also served as an example for younger women. We are hoping that WICA II\, with its European location\, will be more accessible to a larger geographic area. \nWe need general funds\, as most of the sources we apply to are targetted to special regions. Any support from AARMS will be appreciated. If we do not raise enough funds\, the event will go ahead but we will have to reduce the number of participants.

SUMMARY:2023 Science Atlantic MSCS Conference
DESCRIPTION:The Science Atlantic Mathematics\, Statistics\, and Computer Science Conference is an annual regional event. It provides a platform for undergraduate students in Mathematics\, Statistics and Computer Science at Atlantic Canadian universities to disseminate their research projects\, participate in contests\, and network with other students in the region. It also serves as a networking event for faculty members of Atlantic Canadian universities. In 2023\, University of Prince Edward Island will host the conference in Charlottetown\, PEI. The dates of the conference is October 13- 15\, 2023. Some of the major programs are as follows: Field Lecture\, Blundon Lecture\, Sedgewick Lecture\, Contributed Student’s talks\, Mathematics Competition\, CS Programming Competition\, AARMS Session\, Science Atlantic joint Math/CS meeting\, Science Atlantic Math and Stats. meeting\, Science Atlantic CS meeting\, Graduate Student’s Session etc.

SUMMARY:6th International Conference on Applied Category Theory
DESCRIPTION:Established in 2018\, the annual International Conference on Applied Category Theory brings together researchers\, programmers\, scientists and industry who seek to apply the foundational field of category theory to fields outside of mathematics. The ACT Adjoint School is annual research school adjoining the conference. The research school is aimed at fostering an open-hearted and open-minded environment where new applied category theorists develop the skills of research\, welcoming new researchers into cutting-edge research programs in applied category theory\, and to grow and strengthen the applied category theory community. The research school convenes online once every two weeks for 4 months before the conference and concludes research projects during the in-person research week before the conference.

DESCRIPTION:WoLLIC is an annual international forum on inter-disciplinary research involving formal logic\, computing and programming theory\, and natural language and reasoning. Each meeting includes invited talks and tutorials as well as contributed papers. The 29th WoLLIC will be held at Dalhousie University in Halifax\, Nova Scotia\, Canada\, July 11–14\, 2023. The conference typically covers the following topics: foundations of computing\, programming and Artificial Intelligence (AI); novel computation models and paradigms; broad notions of proof and belief; proof mining\, type theory\, effective learnability and explainable AI; formal methods in software and hardware development; logical approach to natural language and reasoning; logics of programs\, actions and resources; foundational aspects of information organization\, search\, flow\, sharing\, and protection; foundations of mathematics; philosophical logic; philosophy of language.

SUMMARY:Canadian Discrete and Algorithmic Mathematics conference
DESCRIPTION:The Canadian Discrete and Algorithmic Mathematics (CanaDAM) is the pre-eminent conference in its area in Canada. It has been\nheld every two years since its founding in 2009. The general topic of the conference is the theory and application of\ndiscrete structures; the goal is to highlight the most salient trends in the field. CanaDAM will bring together researchers\nfrom the various disciplines with which discrete and algorithmic mathematics interact. Particular areas of interest include\ngraphs and digraphs\, hypergraphs\, matroids\, ordered sets\, designs\, coding theory\, enumeration\, combinatorics of words\,\ndiscrete optimization\, discrete and computational geometry\, lattice point enumeration\, combinatorial algorithms\,\ncomputational complexity\, and applications of discrete and algorithmic mathematics\, such as web graphs\, computational\nbiology\, telecommunication networks\, and information processing. CanaDAM strongly encourages participation from students and\npostdocs. We hope to see you there!

SUMMARY:Topological Quantum Field Theory Spring School
DESCRIPTION:Topological Quantum Field Theory lives at the intersection of category theory\, algebraic topology\, representation theory\, and theoretical physics. Physically\, TQFTs describe and control the symmetries of quantum systems\, including quantum symmetries\, anomalous symmetries\, and higher-form symmetries. Mathematically\, TQFTs provide a dictionary between manifold topology and structures in representation theory\, and as such allow computations and results to move between these separate fields. This school\, aimed at math PhD students from Atlantic Canada\, will consist of three 5-hour minicourses related to TQFTs\, plus problem sessions and discussion time; students are expected to be familiar with the basic language of category theory\, but are not expected to have any specialized knowledge in the field. The minicourses will be: Factorization Algebras (Araminta Amabel); Spectral Sequences (Arun Debray); Fusion Categories (Colleen Delaney).

SUMMARY:The 19th Seminar on Commutative Algebra and related topics
DESCRIPTION:Every year the school of mathematics of IPM-Tehran organizes a seminar and workshop to introduce the research topics in the main streams of “Algebraic Geometry\, Commutative algebra and Combinatorial commutative algebra” to young researchers and PhD students\, and encourage them to collaborate in teams led by well-known mathematicians in this area. This year we have paid special attention to inviting regional speakers\, as well as international leaders. Our list of speakers highlights female mathematicians\, and the areas represented are those in which there is regional expertise\, hopefully leading to new collaborations.\nThe conference is preceded by a workshop on Lefschetz properties and connections to algebra\, geometry and combinatorics. The workshop will feature the leading questions in the area\, and the lectures will be delivered by some of the main players in this field.

DESCRIPTION:The Data Challenge will bring together three competitive events\, Data Visualization (7th Annual)\, Data Analytics (3rd Annual)\, and Data Sprint (3rd Annual) on Nov. 18\, 2022\, in a hybrid format – virtually and in person! Take up the challenge and demonstrate the power of data\, with the flexibility to take part remotely.\nParticipants and teams will have the chance to showcase their ability to tell a story driven by data in three unique competitive formats. DESCRIPTION:The Science Atlantic Mathematics\, Statistics\, and Computer Science Conference is held each October and provides an opportunity for students to present their research and to learn about other undergraduate research projects across the region in a supportive and inclusive environment. Undergraduate students are also able to participate in team-based mathematics and programming competitions. The conference additionally provides a valuable opportunity for undergraduate students to meet potential graduate supervisors\, and is the only venue for faculty members from across Atlantic Canada to network and share ideas and information related to research and mentorship.
