SUMMARY:Tensor Categories and Topological Field Theory
DESCRIPTION:The Atlantic Algebra Centre in St.John’s is hosting a mini course on tensor categories and topological field theory by Professor Christoph Schweigert from the University of Hamburg during the week from March 5 to March 9\, 2018. The mini course will connect algebra\, where tensor categories frequently arise as representation categories of Hopf algebras\, to physics\, where topological field theories arise in string theory via the so-called topological twist. Professor Schweigert\, who is a physicist by education and also the head of the algebra group at the University of Hamburg\, is in a unique position to connect these two topics. In 2008\, he was an invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Madrid\, where he lectured on related topics. In 2006\, he was awarded the Gay-Lussac-Humboldt prize.

SUMMARY:Integration Tournament and Boolean Bash as UPEI
DESCRIPTION:This event is the fifth Integration Tournament\, along with the Pi-Day event\, to be held at School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences\, UPEI (March 14-16\, 2018). After a first-round competition\, about twenty-five students are invited to compete head-to-head in a knockout battle to solve integration problems and determine the best integrator. Spectators are also welcomed to have the opportunity to complete the challenging problems for practices.

SUMMARY:NB Math League
DESCRIPTION:We will seek to bring the best and brightest math minds from New Brunswick to UNB.This competition is open to high school students from grades 9-12. Each team will consist of 4 participants. Each team will be labeled as Junior (grades 9-10) or Senior (grades 10-11) categories. In the case that a team has a mixture of grades from 9-12\, they will automatically be considered in the category of the most senior member (i.e. a team with three Grade 9 participants and one Grade 12 participant will compete in the Senior category).
