SUMMARY:CMS/UPEI Math Camp
DESCRIPTION:UPEI Math Camp is held in early May each year\, bringing together some of PEI’s top high school students for a weekend of mathematically-oriented education and entertainment. Students participate in group problem solving\, math relays\, math trivia\, a career information session\, and sessions with faculty. Hopefully\, students leave with a broader view of mathematics\, in both its intrinsic beauty and its practical utility\, and with motivation to continue their math studies in the future.

SUMMARY:East Coast Combinatorics Conference
DESCRIPTION:The 13th ECCC (East Coast Combinatorics Conference) will be held May 7-9\, 2018 at Dalhousie University. There will be two plenary speakers\, Gary Gordon and Elizabeth McMahon (Lafayette College) both are highly esteemed researchers in areas of combinatorics Dr. Gordon will give the plenary talk\, Dr. McMahon will give a public lecture on recreational mathematics. The conference will feature contributed talks by faculty\, graduate students\, and post-docs. The talks are expected to fill two and a half full days\, with approximately 35-50 attendees. One new aspect this year will be two afternoon sessions where the conference participants will break into small groups to work on open problems. Open problems will be solicited in advance and disseminated at the start of the conference.

SUMMARY:AARMS-Girl Guides STEM Camp
DESCRIPTION:The Atlantic Association for Research in the Mathematical Sciences (AARMS) is hosting a camp for the Girl Guides\, Pathfinders and Rangers of New Brunswick and PEI on the University of New Brunswick’s Fredericton (UNBF) campus on May 12-13\, 2018. During this event\, approximately 525 girls aged 9-17 will participate in mini-workshop sessions aimed at increasing awareness and engagement in Science – Technology – Engineering – Mathematics (STEM) disciplines. This is the first in a series of planned events spanning Atlantic Canada.

SUMMARY:Blundon Seminar Math Camp
DESCRIPTION:The Blundon Seminar is an annual (since 1982) three-day math camp for senior high school students from Newfoundland who are interested in mathematics and demonstrate consistently good performance in mathematics competitions such as Blundon\, COMC\, Euclid\, Fermat\, and Cayley contests. Each year we invite about 35-50 students. During the seminar the students attend two one-hour talks given by professors from MUN on various mathematical topics and applications in science and engineering. There are several problem solving sessions as well as other activities such as Mathletics and Papers Chase. The winner of Blundon Contest is presented with the Blundon Shield\, and the winners of other contests are also presented with money and book prizes at the banquet. According to students’ responses collected after each camp this event is enjoyable\, informative\, and memorable for the majority of them.

SUMMARY:StFX Math Camp
DESCRIPTION:The camp is  scheduled for May 18-20\, 2018 and will be residential in nature. The camp is planned for 28 students in grade 10 and 11 and 3 university students who will serve as chaperones. Invitations will be sent to high schools in Nova Scotia for nominations of maximum per school of two students. The students will be expected to be academically strong and enthusiastic\, with strong aptitude for mathematics. In addition to the criteria listed above\, selection of the participants is mostly on a first come-first served basis. However\, gender and regional balance\, recommendation letters and grades will also be considered. The camp will be a two and half days weekend camp to begin at 9:00 am on the Friday and end by 11:30 am on Sunday. There will be about seven sessions that will be presented by faculty to expose the participants to exciting topics and applications in the mathematical sciences. In addition there will be several sessions on math trivia\, math relays\, and team problem solving to help inspire the participants about the breadth and applicability of the mathematical sciences. It is anticipated that students who attend the camps will develop “new friends\, new ideas\, and a new outlook on mathematics” (http://cms.math.ca/MathCamps/).

SUMMARY:Calculus Instruction in Atlantic Canada
DESCRIPTION:This two-day workshop is an opportunity for calculus instructors from across Atlantic Canada to come together and discuss evidence-based pedagogy and innovative instructional methodologies used in introductory calculus courses. Following a morning of contributed research talks each day\, participants will have the opportunity to attend an afternoon of workshops to discuss the morning’s talks and collaborate on creating a common framework of calculus concepts and course materials to address the needs of students in our region.
