SUMMARY:AARMS Summer School 2019: Dynamical Systems\, DEs\, and Special Functions
DESCRIPTION:The summer school is intended for graduate students and promising undergraduate students from all parts of the world. Each participant is expected to register for at least two of the four courses. \nThese courses are certified to be graduate level courses by both the School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences (SMCS) at University of Prince Edward Island and by the Atlantic Association for Research in the Mathematical Sciences (AARMS). Upon successful completion of a course\, SMCS and AARMS will award a certificate confirming this\, which students can then take back to their home institutions if they plan to receive credit for these courses towards their degree. Students hoping to receive academic credit for summer school courses are strongly encouraged to consult with their home institution about this process before the school begins. \nFor student attendees\, the AARMS Summer School will pay the tuition and the accommodation expenses\, but will not cover the cost of travel. Note that the accommodation is provided only when a student is taking a course (the night before the first lecture of a course is covered). If a student arrives early or leaves late\, the extra accommodation is not covered. Note that those who will finish their bachelor/master degree in the spring/summer term of 2019 and will enter the graduate school in the fall term of 2019 are considered to be students. \nTo apply for AARMS Summer School 2019\, please complete the online application form before April 15\, 2019. \nPlease note that the evaluation committee of the summer school will review all applications shortly after April 15\, 2019 and thereafter notify the applicants whose applications are approved by email. Please do not book your air tickets before receiving the approval email.

SUMMARY:Valley Math and Computer Science Camp
DESCRIPTION:In July of 2019\, Acadia University plans to launch the first junior math and computer science camp in Nova Scotia. This is an opportunity for young students in the Annapolis Valley to participate in a week of fun and enriching science-based activities\, and develop their curiosity and enjoyment of math and computer science.

SUMMARY:AARMS-CMS-Dal math camp for high school students
DESCRIPTION:During the second (or third) week of July\, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Dalhousie University hosts the annual math camp for high school students\, whose goals were to identify\, stimulate and encourage mathematical talent among Nova Scotia high school students. To select the participants we sent invitations to all of the schools in the province asking to nominate two best students from each school\, then we have selected 20 best students from this pool of qualified nominees\, based on the letters of recommendations from their respective math teachers\, math competitions scores and results\, as well as their school grades. The camp is jointly sponsored by Dalhousie University\, the Canadian Mathematical Society and AARMS. It consisted of lectures and problem-solving sessions conducted by faculty members and graduate students from Dalhousie\, Mount Saint Vincent and Acadia Universities and also included extracurricular activities. Normally\, the camp attracts 20 students (10F\,10M)

SUMMARY:AARMS Industrial Problem Solving Workshop 2019
DESCRIPTION:The Atlantic Association for Research in the Mathematical Sciences (AARMS) will host its second Industrial Problem Solving Workshop (IPSW) from July 15 to 19 at the University of New Brunswick.  At this event\, representatives from companies and non-profits from Atlantic Canada and elsewhere will present academically interesting and industrial relevant problems to graduate students and faculty mentors. The mentors and students work intensively on the problems for a few days and then present their solutions back to the industrial representatives.

SUMMARY:Minisymposium for the annual meeting of the Society for Mathematical Biology
DESCRIPTION:Since the pioneer work of Fisher and KPP\, Wave Propagation in Biological Media has been widely studied in various mathematical models establishing the movement or invasion of species in heterogenous media or the spread of infectious disease among species. Recently\, there have been tremendous advancements in the theory of traveling wavefronts itself\, with considerable applications to competition or predation models in the biological field \nThe purpose of this minisymposium is to invite mathematical researchers with biological backgrounds to work together and contribute to the study of biological waves. It will serve as a platform to report new breakthroughs\, exchange research ideas and extend academic networks. New collaborations are also expected during and after the meeting. Speakers and talks are carefully selected to make the session attractive to a diverse audience. Especially\, PhD students or post-doctoral fellows are encouraged to attend this session for getting research insight in their recent study.

SUMMARY:Diversity in Mathematics: an undergraduate summer school for women in mathematics
DESCRIPTION:This is a multi-year\, multi-level approach to promoting diversity and inclusivity in STEM. The annual two-week program will encompass two concurrent\, partially overlapping events targeting two distinct groups: \n1. A summer school for top undergraduate women from across Canada and the northwest US\, currently specializing in mathematics or a closely related STEM field\, such as computer science\, physics and statistics. The program will expose them to the many facets of mathematical sciences as a career in an intense two week immersion. Career opportunities in academia and industry will be given equal emphasis. \n2. An interactive math camp that runs as a companion program to the undergraduate summer school. The target demographic here involves high school students in grades 10 and 11 in western Canada\, irrespective of gender\, with an aptitude for science and mathematics but exclusively from under-privileged minority groups.
