Combinatorics of Group Actions and its Applications
The workshop is the joint activity between Atlantic Algebra Centre and the Network of Ontario Lie Theorists with the focus on modern developments in the theory of group actions (gradings on algebras, actions on lattices and varieties) and its applications (polynomial identities, representation theory and Schubert calculus). It will include several mini-courses given by leading experts addressed at graduate students, as well as research talks given by senior researchers and short communications by young researchers. The workshop will run for…

Symposium for South Asian Women in Mathematics
The purpose of this event is to promote scientific communication in mathematics among the women and establish a mathematical network for sharing and communicating with women mathematicians, experts and organizations with similar goals in this region. This symposium will bring together leaders of professional organizations for women working in the mathematical sciences, particularly in mathematics research and mathematics education. Participants will have the opportunity to interact and share their research work in both pure and applied fields of mathematics, they…

Tensor Categories and Topological Field Theory
The Atlantic Algebra Centre in St.John's is hosting a mini course on tensor categories and topological field theory by Professor Christoph Schweigert from the University of Hamburg during the week from March 5 to March 9, 2018. The mini course will connect algebra, where tensor categories frequently arise as representation categories of Hopf algebras, to physics, where topological field theories arise in string theory via the so-called topological twist. Professor Schweigert, who is a physicist by education and also the…

This event is the fifth Integration Tournament, along with the Pi-Day event, to be held at School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, UPEI (March 14-16, 2018). After a first-round competition, about twenty-five students are invited to compete head-to-head in a knockout battle to solve integration problems and determine the best integrator. Spectators are also welcomed to have the opportunity to complete the challenging problems for practices.

CMS/UPEI Math Camp
UPEI Math Camp is held in early May each year, bringing together some of PEI's top high school students for a weekend of mathematically-oriented education and entertainment. Students participate in group problem solving, math relays, math trivia, a career information session, and sessions with faculty. Hopefully, students leave with a broader view of mathematics, in both its intrinsic beauty and its practical utility, and with motivation to continue their math studies in the future.
