Special Session: Categorical Approaches to Geometry and Topology (2019 CMS Summer meeting)
This session will highlight research that uses category theory to make progress in various areas of geometry and topology. Particularly, we plan to have speakers on topological data analysis, homotopy type theory, topological complexity and robotics, synthetic differential geometry, and orbifolds and groupoids.

This Education session Assessment in Mathematics as part of the Canadian Mathematical Society Summer meeting will provide an opportunity for instructors to share such pedagogical knowledge as their innovative and meaningful approaches to assessment and the outcomes of these approaches, especially in the age of ease of access to both pedagogical resources and assignment solutions online. Through discussions at the last CMS Summer meeting, it was discovered that many undergraduate mathematics instructors struggle with assigning meaningful assessment, given that extensive…

The summer school is intended for graduate students and promising undergraduate students from all parts of the world. Each participant is expected to register for at least two of the four courses. These courses are certified to be graduate level courses by both the School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences (SMCS) at University of Prince Edward Island and by the Atlantic Association for Research in the Mathematical Sciences (AARMS). Upon successful completion of a course, SMCS and AARMS will award…

Valley Math and Computer Science Camp
In July of 2019, Acadia University plans to launch the first junior math and computer science camp in Nova Scotia. This is an opportunity for young students in the Annapolis Valley to participate in a week of fun and enriching science-based activities, and develop their curiosity and enjoyment of math and computer science.

During the second (or third) week of July, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Dalhousie University hosts the annual math camp for high school students, whose goals were to identify, stimulate and encourage mathematical talent among Nova Scotia high school students. To select the participants we sent invitations to all of the schools in the province asking to nominate two best students from each school, then we have selected 20 best students from this pool of qualified nominees, based…

The Atlantic Association for Research in the Mathematical Sciences (AARMS) will host its second Industrial Problem Solving Workshop (IPSW) from July 15 to 19 at the University of New Brunswick. At this event, representatives from companies and non-profits from Atlantic Canada and elsewhere will present academically interesting and industrial relevant problems to graduate students and faculty mentors. The mentors and students work intensively on the problems for a few days and then present their solutions back to the industrial representatives.

Since the pioneer work of Fisher and KPP, Wave Propagation in Biological Media has been widely studied in various mathematical models establishing the movement or invasion of species in heterogenous media or the spread of infectious disease among species. Recently, there have been tremendous advancements in the theory of traveling wavefronts itself, with considerable applications to competition or predation models in the biological field The purpose of this minisymposium is to invite mathematical researchers with biological backgrounds to work together…

This is a multi-year, multi-level approach to promoting diversity and inclusivity in STEM. The annual two-week program will encompass two concurrent, partially overlapping events targeting two distinct groups: 1. A summer school for top undergraduate women from across Canada and the northwest US, currently specializing in mathematics or a closely related STEM field, such as computer science, physics and statistics. The program will expose them to the many facets of mathematical sciences as a career in an intense two week…

Nonassociative algebras and geometry
The workshop is dedicated to recent developments in the theory of nonassociative algebras with emphasis on applications and relations with associated geometries (e.g. simple non-associative algebras, gradings and identities on Lie algebras, algebraic cycles and Schubert calculus on the associated homogeneous spaces). This is a joint event of the Atlantic Algebra Center (AAC) together with the Network of Ontario Lie Theorists (NOLT), which continues the successful collaboration between AAC and NOLT. It will include several introductory mini-courses and talks given…
